KITI is a Directorate under the State Department for Industry, Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry that offers training. It was established in 1965 with a major mandate of giving trainees hands on training in technical skills with a strong component of entrepreneurship skills for self-employment.

The Institute is located along Nakuru – Solai road, 3kms from Nakuru town. The objectives of this institute are; to train artisans, craftsmen, technicians, engineering graduates, engineers and entrepreneurs to work in the existing industries and for self-employment; train middle level managers for the industrial sector and to carry out research in projects and products that would accelerate rural industrialization.

While maintaining its mandate, the institute has continued to adjust its programs in order to respond to the changing needs of the customers hence making the courses offered remain market driven. The various areas of training include Clothing and Textiles, Welding and Fabrication, Foundry Technology, Automotive, Building Construction, Electrical and Electronics, Food and Beverages, Leather & Tannery and Entrepreneurship.  In addition to providing tailor made courses, KITI also offers curriculum for KNEC (Kenya National Examinations Council) and NITA (National Industrial Training Authority) certification.

In order to remain relevant to the market, as well as improve the quality of training offered, KITI has continued to collaborate with other relevant organizations, an act which has led to signing of Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with these organizations.Currently, KITI has signed MOUs with the following organizations;

  • Generations Kenya, which involves training in textiles and apparels
  • Computer for Schools Kenya (CFSK)
    With all these, trainees who go through KITI have an advantage of fitting quite well in the labor market both for self-employment and employment with other sectors. It is for these reasons that I recommend KITI as one of the best training institutions to all who would want to get skills in any of the training areas specified above.
